Spacecraft Systems Engineer

Virgin Galactic is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Spacecraft Systems Engineer to join our pioneering team. This role involves designing, developing, and integrating spacecraft systems to support our mission of opening space to everyone.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and integration of advanced spacecraft systems, ensuring alignment with project requirements and company objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including propulsion, avionics, and structural engineering, to ensure seamless system integration and performance.
  • Conduct systems engineering analyses, including requirements analysis, functional analysis, and trade studies, to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Develop detailed engineering documentation, including system specifications, design documents, and test plans.
  • Manage and oversee system integration and testing activities, ensuring systems meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in space technology and incorporate relevant innovations into system designs.
  • Present project updates, technical findings, and performance metrics to senior management and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
  • Extensive experience in systems engineering, with a strong background in spacecraft design and integration.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering tools and methodologies, such as DOORS, SysML, and MBSE.
  • Strong knowledge of spacecraft systems, propulsion, avionics, and structural engineering.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions for complex engineering challenges.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with experience working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
